Following are some tips and guidelines for the Leaf Collection program:

•  Inclement weather or a large volume of leaves could alter the leaf pickup schedule.
•  Leaf piles with vehicles parked in front of them will not be picked up.
•  Leaves must be on the parkway by 6:30 a.m. on your area ’s designated day.
•  Rake leaves in a row parallel to the street, on the parkway, at least 1 ft. back from the curb and off the sidewalk.
•  Pushing leaves into the street is a violation of Municipal Code 12.04.170, punishable by a fine of up to $500 for each offense.
•  Leaf piles will not kill grass, although they may cause it to discolor. The grass will grow back, rich and green, in the spring.
•  Avoid raking foreign materials into leaf piles (brush, grass clippings, trash, etc.), as these could damage equipment or cause injury to personnel.
•  Yard waste bag pickup by Veolia ends November 30.

Storm Sewers And Leaves

leaves and storm sewers don't mixLeaves and Storm Sewers Don’t Mix!

When preparing your leaves for collection, do not place the leaves on the street. This activity is prohibited by our code and is punishable by a fine of up to $500! One of the reasons the code exists is to prevent the storm sewer drainage system from becoming plugged. The drainage system is a network of structures, channels and underground pipes that carry storm water runoff to streams and the Fox River. This system plays a vital role in protecting our properties and roadways during rain events. The system’s ability to effectively convey storm water runoff during heavy rains can be compromised due to leaves and litter plugging the grates and inlets. Residents can help protect their property from flooding by keeping the storm sewer grating near their home free of leaves, litter, and other debris.

Please contact the Public Works Department at (630) 377–4405 if you have any questions regarding the City’s storm water system.
