Hydrant Flushing2011 Hydrant Flushing Schedule Map The City of St. Charles has hired a contractor for painting repairs of the Campton Hills Water Tower due to coating system failures. This project is anticipated to last 3-4 weeks and must be completed prior to high water system demands and warmer temperatures. The time frame for this project is weather dependant as temperature fluctuations, humidity or rain could cause delays. This process includes: power washing, hand tooling rust spots, priming and re-coating of the tank with a new logo. The painting project will not interrupt water service or fire fighting capabilities. Due to the Water Tower repainting project, the Spring Hydrant Flushing schedule will be in limited areas with the remaining areas to be done in the fall of 2011. The City Water Division flushes the water main distribution system annually to remove accumulations of insoluble iron from the inside of water mains. During this process residents may experience rusty-colored water while the lines are being flushed. When flushing has subsided, run a cold-water tap until it runs clear. Although the water is safe, it may stain laundered clothing. If this occurs, keep clothes wet and treat them with a cleaning product for removing the stains. The Public Works Department provides free packets of this laundry treatment to residents at the Public Works office, 1405 S. 7th Ave.; City reception desk, 2 E. Main Street; and Police Department, 2 State Ave. 24/7. Please contact Public Works at (630) 377-4405 or by email at pw@stcharlesil.gov
