Proclamations
A proclamation is a formal declaration or public announcement giving notice of a governmental act that has been done or is to be done. A proclamation is also a fancy way to make a public announcement. Mayors, council members, or local government administrators write proclamations to commend people or to announce upcoming events. Some subject matters are for organization events that occur annually, special birthdays, retirements, and Eagle Scout recognitions.
Any organization or person can contact the mayor's office to request a proclamation:
- Contact the Mayor’s office or send a letter to the mayor stating the purpose and wording for the proclamation.
- The Mayor's Office will work with the requestor to set a date for presentation and approval of the proclamation at a City Council meeting. Proclamations are sometimes read on location by the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem.
- The reading of the proclamation by the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem is the perfect opportunity for a photo opportunity to help promote or advertise the occasion.
