The Community Restitution Coordinator position is a civilian position overseeing the activities of offenders who have been convicted of crimes such as Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and other traffic related offenses, and who have been assigned to community restitution through the judicial system as a part of their sentencing agreement.
Since its inception in April of 2004, over 2,100 workers have completed over 159,000 hours of work for the City. Restitution jobs have included providing personnel to work for the Sewage Treatment Plant; washing City-owned vehicles; painting City offices and light poles; graffiti removal; moving office supplies; snow removal, weeding, and trash control in the City campus; trash pick-up along major highways in St. Charles; helping out with the festivals, including Riverfest and Scarecrow Festival; general maintenance at the Heritage Center Museum and Police Department firing range; painting the interior of the Provena Pine View Care Center; and assisting with numerous other projects throughout the City.
In 2014, monetary savings, along with the total equivalent City project savings, has compiled to almost $2 million since the start of the program in 2004.
