Applying for a Building Permit

 

Applications and payments may be submitted to the Building and Code Enforcement Department in person during our regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  We also accept items submitted by U.S. Mail, or by placing submittals in our drop-box located near the front entrance to the St. Charles Municipal Building located at 2 E. Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.

We are unable to process permit applications that do not include the submittal fee.

Forms of payment accepted:

  • Check
  • Cash
  • Credit Cards accepted for in-person payments only—not accepted for drop-box transactions or online. 

Please note, the City of St. Charles does not require a contractor registration.

The Kane County Special Needs Registry is a tool that allows the Office of Emergency Management and Health Department to be able to contact residents who may have special needs during an emergency. Use this form to sign up for the Kane County Special Needs Registry, or call the Kane County Office of Emergency Management at (630) 208-2051.

Water Hardness Map   

The Water service area, in cooperation with the Engineering Division, maintains this water hardness map to help residents determine settings for new water softeners. The hardness is based on a generalization of hardness for the wells serving the various zones indicated below. Click on the map image to download a PDF map.
Water Quality Report

Every year the City of St. Charles Water Division distributes a report that summarizes the quality of the City’s drinking water.
