St. Charles Selected as Finalist for the National ‘Voice of the People’ Award

City Ranked Among the Highest in Resident Satisfaction for Recreation and Wellness

St. Charles was named a Finalist for the Voice of the People Award for Excellence in Recreation and Wellness from the National Research Center, Inc. (NRC). St. Charles received the award after garnering high marks in Recreation and Wellness category of the City of St. Charles’s 2016 Resident Survey.

The NRC presented Voice of the People awards to communities that received the highest overall level of satisfaction in one of its nine survey categories: Community Engagement, Safety, Mobility, Foundations of Livability, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment, Natural Environment, Built Environment and Economy.

“It is an honor to be viewed nationally as a leader in recreation,” said Holly Cabel, Director of Parks and Recreation at the St. Charles Park District. “We are committed to building alliances to advance our mission of enriching the quality of life for our community through excellence in programs, parks, facilities and services.”

The award recognizes the valuable natural areas and parklands in St. Charles. Collaboration between the City, Park District and other local organizations, means there are plenty of activities for residents and visitors to enjoy year-round.

For its 2013 and 2016 resident surveys, the City used the NRC National Citizen Survey, a standardized tool used by communities across the country. The Voice of the People Awards were presented jointly by NRC and the International City/County Management Association ICMA at the ICMA conference in October.
