Fox River Dam Joint Task Force Meeting

March 28

The first meeting of the River Dam Joint Task Force was held March 28. People who attended shared comments and were appreciative of the Task Force leading a discussion about the dam.

The meeting focused on organizational issues, such as electing officers. Once a meeting schedule is finalized yet, we will share it. The group decided that future meetings will be available to attend via Zoom.

St. Charles Mental Health Board Announces Funding Allocations

The St. Charles community has long been a strong advocate for access to proper mental health services for its residents. The mission of the St. Charles Community 708 Mental Health Board is to support and fund local, community-based, high-quality programs and services for St. Charles citizens with mental health needs, substance abuse needs, and developmental disabilities.

“Dim the Lights for Birds at Night”

World Migratory Bird Day is May 13

Because migratory birds can get confused by bright lights, on May 13, 2023 in support of World Migratory Bird Day, the colored light at the top of the Municipal Building tower will be turned off from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Residents are invited to turn off the lights outside their homes as well.

Light pollution attracts and disorients nocturnally migrating birds, making them vulnerable to collisions and other dangers. Artificial light also impacts birds in the breeding and winter seasons, disrupting feeding, and other vital behaviors.

Business Cited for Violations

Mayor Lora Vitek, acting as Liquor Control Commissioner, enforced local ordinances for violations by Alley 64, Inc., 212 W. Main Street, St. Charles, IL 60174. The citations were considered at the March 20, 2023, meeting of the St. Charles Liquor Control Commission. The Commission considers alcohol, tobacco, and massage license issues.

The licensee was cited for an incident on February 4, 2023, for unauthorized and dangerous fireworks display activity and making a false statement. Licensee is required to submit $2,000 in fines and $1,500 in court costs.

St. Charles Visitors Cultural Commission Soliciting Requests for Funding

The St. Charles Visitors Cultural Commission is soliciting requests for funding from organizations that support and promote tourism, culture, history, and the arts in St. Charles. The following eligibility guidelines will be used to determine which organizations will be recommended for funding. Organizations must: 

Mental Health Board to Consider Funding Requests at Annual Meeting

Agency Applications Due March 10, 2023

The St. Charles 708 Community Mental Health Board will consider requests for funding for fiscal year 2023-2024 at its annual
meeting April 19, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the St. Charles Municipal Center, 2 E. Main Street. 

The Mental Health Board allotted approximately $612,000 in funding to organizations that serve the residents of St. Charles by
providing services related to mental disorders, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and drug abuse in fiscal year 2022-2023.

St. Charles Tree Commission Changes Name to Natural Resources Commission

Commission will focus on Sustainability Efforts in St. Charles

The St. Charles Tree Commission has changed its name to the Natural Resources Commission. This modification reflects an expanded mission of protecting the environment and promoting sustainability.

The updated mission of the Natural Resources Commission is to work through a committed partnership with the community to conserve, preserve, protect and enhance the City's natural resources, and to raise awareness and make recommendations concerning environmental issues within the City of St. Charles.
