The St. Charles Police Department conducted additional traffic enforcement during the week preceding Independence Day and on the day itself. These extra patrols were held in conjunction with the nationwide Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement effort. The St.
Mayor Lora Vitek, acting as Liquor Control Commissioner, enforced local ordinances for two businesses at the June 19, 2023, hearing of the St. Charles Liquor Control Commission. The Commission considers alcohol, tobacco, and massage license issues.
With the announcement that this year’s 4th of July fireworks would be deployed from Langum Park, the Police Department advised a couple temporary road closures would need to occur while the fireworks are deployed, as well as some parking restrictions that would be in place for the day of the event. Officers and EMA personnel will be at key locations on both the east and west side of the Fox River to help move vehicles around the temporary road closures. The following roadways will be affected:
During the Fireworks
The St. Charles Fire Department will be conducting Hydrant Flow Testing at 1416 Indiana Avenue on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. The test will begin at approximately 1:00 PM and finish by 2:00 PM the same day.
In addition to extra officers helping direct traffic and assist pedestrians crossing the roadways during the annual 4th of July fireworks celebration, the St. Charles Police Department also will have additional patrols out specifically seeking impaired motorists. The safety campaign will run from June 16 through the early-morning hours of July 5 to encompass three summer weekends leading up to and after Independence Day.
In the evening of June 13, pyrotechnicians conducted a brief test at Langum Park in preparation of the upcoming fireworks display on July 4th. A few fireworks were launched from the site as part of the testing procedure. The fire department was on site, and police temporarily closed Riverside Avenue for approximately five minutes while the testing took place. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The citations were considered at the May 15, 2023, hearing of the St. Charles Liquor Control Commission. The Commission considers alcohol, tobacco, and massage license issues. The following businesses were required to submit a $250 fine and $500 in court costs:
The St. Charles Fire Department will be conducting water main flushing at 3025 E Main Street on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The test will begin at approximately 9:00 A.M. and finish by 10:00 A.M. the same day.
The St. Charles Fire Department will be conducting water main flushing at 716 Oak Street on Thursday, May 11, 2023. The test will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and finish by 10 a.m. the same day.
The St. Charles Police Department worked in conjunction with the state of Illinois to bring awareness and conduct enforcement regarding distracted driving and the crashes that often directly result from drivers not focusing on the road.
