Garbage and Refuse

Other Recycling and Waste

Here you can find some local resources for recycling items not included in the City’s refuse contractor-sponsored recycling program. Local programs exist to recycle polystyrene, styrofoam, light bulbs, electronics including televisions, books, motor oil, batteries, and household hazardous waste, and dispose of medical waste and medications.

Commercial Refuse Collection

The City does not contract for collection of commercial refuse. Commercial refuse and recycling services are available through a number of licensed vendors with which businesses may contract independently.

Following is a complete and current list of licensed vendors. Please call the Public Works Office at 377-4405 or email pw@stcharlesil.gov with questions or for more information.

Curbside Composting

St. Charles residents can put food scraps and other organic composting materials out at the curb along with regular yard waste for collection. Lakeshore Recycling Systems, the City of St. Charles refuse/recycling contractor, will pick up the compost material on regular collection days.
