St. Charles Police to Increase Officers Working This Super Bowl Sunday

With the Super Bowl occurring this Sunday, the St. Charles Police Department announced that they will have extra officers patrolling city streets looking for impaired drivers. Extra officers will be working Sunday as part of the state’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.

“Statistically, intoxicated motorists are on the roads 22% more often on Super Bowl Sunday than on a typical Sunday,” said Commander Rich Clark. “Recognizing the impact that a crash can have on either the driver or other innocent motorists, it’s simply not worth the risk. The use of a designated driver or ride-share is a much safer option. Plus, the average DUI in Illinois costs a driver around $10,000.”

Some tips the St. Charles Police Department recommends for a safe Super Bowl Sunday:

  • Designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride service to get home safely.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 911.
  • Have a friend who is about to drive impaired? Take the keys away and arrange to get your friend home safely.
  • Hosting a party? Serve plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
  • Always buckle up! It’s your best defense in case of a crash.

Clark concluded, “We want everyone on Monday to be talking about Eagles and Chiefs game, not an unnecessary and preventable tragedy.”

The Illinois Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket programs are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
