Plan Submittal Requirements for Developers

The Fire Prevention Bureau reviews plans for fire code compliance for new construction, additions, and remodeling/alterations of all commercial buildings and certain multi-family dwellings in the City of St. Charles. Architectural plans are submitted to the Building and Code Enforcement Division to begin the permit process. All conditions stated in the plan review must be satisfied prior to final occupancy of the building/space. If fire alarm, sprinkler plans, or kitchen suppression system plans are required by the plan review they are submitted directly to the Fire Department for review as follows:

Submittal requirements for fire alarm plan review:

  • Plan Review Submittal Form
  • 4 sets of working plans
  • 1 set of equipment cutsheets
  • A final acceptance test with contractor present is required prior to final occupancy of building/space.

Submittal requirements for automatic sprinkler plans:

  • Plan Review Submittal Form
  • 4 sets of working plans
  • 4 sets of hydraulic calculations
  • 1 set of equipment cutsheets
  • An aboveground hydrostatic test at 200 psi for two hours is required prior to system acceptance.

Submittal requirements for kitchen suppression systems:

  • Plan Review Submittal Form
  • 4 sets of working plans
  • 1 set of equipment cutsheets
  • 1 type K wet chemical fire extinguisher
  • An operational test that will include a blow-off test, detector/manual trip, auto gas shut-off, and interconnect to the fire alarm control panel is required prior to final occupancy of the building/space.
