Applying for a Building Permit

 

Applications and payments may be submitted to the Building and Code Enforcement Department in person during our regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  We also accept items submitted by U.S. Mail, or by placing submittals in our drop-box located near the front entrance to the St. Charles Municipal Building located at 2 E. Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.

We are unable to process permit applications that do not include the submittal fee.

  • Credit Cards accepted for in-person payments only—not accepted for drop-box transactions or online. 

Please note, the City of St. Charles does not require a contractor registration.

Façade Improvement Grant Program   

The Facade Improvement Program is a reimbursement / matching grant program administered by the City of St. Charles to encourage the rehabilitation and restoration of the exterior of buildings in the downtown area.

Green Power Enrollment Form   

The Renewable Generation Energy Purchase (RGEP) program is a voluntary customer payment that the City uses to buy renewable energy credits (REC’s) to offset the environmental impact of the power we consume. 

Sums collected from participants are pooled and used to make REC purchases from suppliers who have generated energy from a variety of renewable sources, including wind, solar, and landfill gas.  Through this process, renewable energy generators receive a compensation to help offset the additional costs related to producing green energy.

Home Rehab & Accessibility Loan Program   

The City offers a zero interest, deferred payment loan for income-eligible households to fix maintenance issues such as plumbing, roofing, electrical, windows, and siding, as well as to make necessary accessibility improvements including ramps, chair lifts, and bathroom modifications.

This program is funded by the St. Charles Housing Trust Fund and is supplemental to the Kane County Home Rehabilitation Program. Up to $20,000 in assistance is available through the County's program. Homeowners may qualify for an additional $10,000 from the City if additional funds are needed.

Homes for a Changing Region, a multi-jurisdictional housing study crafted through a partnership between the communities of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, and North Aurora, was completed in November 2014 through a grant from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).
